Description of the Event:
The artistic focus is on the written word by poets, oral history, and dramatic performers. We feel that this art form needs more exposure. The All Event is a play written by participants recruited from Hartford and surrounding communities. This very interactive writing and performance workshop will challenge all participants to take a revealing look into the lives of people whose contributions and accomplishments are often unrecognized or minimized. It will expose relevant and connected histories of the people of the Diaspora and challenge the many misconceptions about recorded history. Combining critical thinking with the gift of imagination, members will be instructed to connect the dots between historical facts and current events. This will allow them to create personal original stories based on fictional and non-fictional characters and events. A theatrical play, "Re-Writing History in Kaleidoscope" will consist of spoken word oral history, poetry, and monologues accompanied by music and dancers, directed by, Michael Green.
